Where Italian Soul Meets a Dutch Heart

Some weddings are beautiful. Some are joyful. And some feel like love at first sight.

Esther & Daniel’s destination wedding in Ierapetra, Crete was exactly that , a vibrant, design-forward celebration blending Dutch charm and Italian soul into one unforgettable story. Set against the sun-drenched landscape of southern Crete, their wedding became a true expression of culture, personality, and complete creative trust.

We named the concept “Liefde a Prima Vista” - Love at First Sight in Dutch and Italian. The goal was simple and powerful: guests would fall in love the moment they arrived.

The Vision

From the beginning, Esther & Daniel gave us complete creative freedom, the greatest gift a planner can receive. Their only request was beautifully simple: fun, fresh, and subtle disco elements.

We created a layered design narrative where Italian abundance met Dutch symbolism. Mediterranean produce became décor, traditions were reimagined playfully, and disco details were woven softly throughout the day.

The palette centered around bold reds, fresh greenery, striped linens, natural wood, and organic textures, creating a celebration that felt vibrant, theatrical, and deeply personal.

The Welcome: First Impressions That Spark Joy

The experience began with a statement entrance designed to spark instant joy. A rustic garden cart overflowing with tomatoes, peppers, and mini disco balls held the first welcome sign, an ode to Italian markets with a playful twist.

A second welcome table in green-and-white striped linen featured a sculptural pasta rope, lush red florals, fresh vegetables, paper umbrellas, elegant hand fans, and a beautifully styled card box. Guests sipped welcome drinks while exploring the scene, immediately immersed in the Dutch–Italian story.

A Ceremony Framed by Columns and Sea Views

The ceremony unfolded in front of the villa’s ionic pillars, overlooking the Mediterranean horizon. A two-piece floral arch in red, white, and greenery stood between the columns, creating a setting that felt architectural, emotional, and timeless.

It was intimate. Cinematic. Unforgettable.

Cocktail Hour & A Playful Cake Moment

Guests gathered for cocktails and abundant charcuterie boards filled with Mediterranean flavors before Esther & Daniel shared a playful twist on tradition.

Instead of a late-night cake cutting, they cut a strawberry-filled cheesecake during cocktail hour, dusting it with powdered sugar and slicing into it together, relaxed, joyful, and completely authentic.

The Reception Table: Where Cultures Became One

Dinner centered around one long table beneath a pergola installed exclusively above the dining space, draped in floating white fabrics that created an intimate architectural frame.

The table design blended cultures beautifully. Green-and-white striped linen, wooden chairs, bold red napkins, silver cutlery, and florals intertwined with fresh tomatoes created an Italian garden aesthetic.

Each place setting told a story. Hand-lettered illustrated menus, Dutch klompen shoes as place cards, and Italian ribbon details symbolized two cultures becoming one. Decorative pasta installations and a cascading tomato sculpture added theatrical personality, while subtle disco accents shimmered in the Cretan light.

A Live Painter & A Moment of Tears

One of the most meaningful elements of the day was the live painter who captured Esther & Daniel during their ceremony. Throughout the celebration, guests watched the artwork slowly come to life.

When the couple finally saw the finished painting, they burst into tears. It became more than art, it became a forever memory on canvas.

The Party: Sparkle, Crocs & Pure Celebration

As dinner ended, the celebration transformed. Signature cocktails flowed, music filled the garden, and the atmosphere shifted to pure joy.

Esther reappeared in a sparkling mini dress paired with Crocs decorated in wedding charms, playful, unexpected, and unforgettable. The dance floor filled instantly as subtle disco details shimmered under the night sky.

A Destination Wedding in Crete Designed to Be Felt

Esther & Daniel’s wedding at Villa Kastello Kalliste was a celebration of heritage, storytelling, and creative freedom. A Dutch–Italian fusion where vegetables became art, traditions became playful, and disco met Mediterranean romance.

“Liefde a Prima Vista” wasn’t just a name. It was the feeling of the entire day.

A wedding designed not only to be seen, but to be felt. And remembered forever.
