When a Proposal Photo Becomes an Entire Wedding Concept
Some wedding concepts begin with a color palette. Some begin with a venue.
And some begin with a goat.
Myrselena & Duarte’s destination wedding in Chania was a celebration built around one unexpected moment: the photograph from their proposal. As the couple embraced on a rugged Cretan mountainside, a curious local goat wandered into the frame, creating a spontaneous image that would later become the heart of their wedding story.
Rather than seeing it as a funny coincidence, we transformed it into the foundation of the entire design concept.
From stationery and signage to guest experiences and even the party itself, the goat became a symbol of their journey, playful, personal, and uniquely theirs.
The result was a wedding where Greek heritage met Portuguese culture, where tradition blended with bold design, and where every detail felt intentional.

The Vision
When we first began designing Myrselena & Duarte’s wedding, we kept returning to that proposal photograph.
Set against the dramatic Cretan landscape, the image captured everything that defined them as a couple: adventure, authenticity, humor, and a deep connection to the place where their story would continue.
The goat became more than a mascot.
It became a design language.
Hand-drawn illustrations, custom stationery, signage, guest gifts, menus, and even the reception party incorporated subtle references to the iconic visitor who unintentionally became part of their love story.
The palette reflected the warmth of Crete itself, soft neutrals layered with rich reds, terracotta tones, burnt oranges, and natural textures inspired by the island's landscape.
Every element was designed to feel cohesive, elevated, and deeply personal.
A Ceremony Rooted in Greek Tradition
The day began at Saint Nicolas Church, where family, friends, and guests from around the world gathered to witness a beautiful Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony.
From the moment guests arrived, the design story unfolded.
A fabric welcome sign featuring the couple's custom wedding logo greeted everyone at the church entrance, introducing the visual identity that would carry throughout the celebration.
Warm-toned florals softened the historic setting while wooden chairs adorned with flowing white ribbons created an atmosphere that felt romantic and timeless. Ceremony booklets featuring the couple's bespoke illustrations completed the experience.
One of the most emotional moments of the day came with Myrselena’s arrival.
Accompanied by live Cretan musicians, she was led through the village alongside her family, following a tradition deeply rooted in local heritage. The sound of Cretan music filled the streets, creating a powerful entrance that connected generations and cultures.
It was a moment that felt both intimate and grand.
A celebration of family, identity, and home.
Cocktail Hour with a Portuguese Twist
Cocktail hour introduced guests to another layer of the couple's story.
Farm-style benches invited guests to gather beneath the Cretan sun while signature cocktails flowed and conversations filled the garden.
To honor Duarte’s Portuguese roots, a traditional Jamón station became a focal point of the experience, bringing together Mediterranean hospitality and Iberian flavors.
Guests discovered their table assignments through a seating chart displayed across rustic hay bales, each seat marked with a miniature basket filled with fresh fruit and accompanied by a welcoming glass of raki.
But the true stars of cocktail hour quickly became clear.
The goats.
As guests mingled, local Cretan goats wandered nearby, creating a delightful full-circle moment that connected everyone back to the original proposal photograph.
The symbol that began as an unexpected guest had now become the thread connecting the entire celebration.
A Reception Hidden Inside a Cretan Garden
Following the ceremony, guests made their way to Gramvousa Balos Restaurant, where the celebration continued inside one of Chania’s most enchanting garden settings.
Nestled among olive trees, greenery, and rustic Cretan architecture, the reception felt like a secret garden brought to life.
Long tables dressed in crisp white linens were layered with carefully selected details that echoed the wedding palette. Napkins in shades of deep red, burnt orange, and warm amber reflected the florals while wooden chairs and natural textures added warmth and authenticity.
Clay vessels, glass vases, and abundant floral arrangements created movement throughout the tablescape.
Every detail from the place cards and menus to the table numbers, featured the couple’s custom wedding logo and hand-drawn illustrations.
The design wasn't simply decoration.
It was storytelling.
The Details That Made It Unmistakably Them
Design was never an afterthought for Myrselena & Duarte.
It was woven into every part of the guest experience.
Their custom goat emblem appeared throughout the wedding in subtle and sophisticated ways. Hand-drawn florals paired beautifully with the warm color palette, creating stationery that felt artistic, personal, and timeless.
From welcome signs and seating charts to bar menus, guest gifts, and ceremony details, every piece belonged to the same visual story.
One of our favorite touches was Myrselena’s custom clutch featuring their wedding logo, a beautiful example of how thoughtful design can extend far beyond traditional stationery.
When every detail speaks the same language, a wedding becomes more than beautiful.
It becomes unforgettable.
A Wedding Cake Reimagined
Rather than following tradition, Myrselena & Duarte chose a dessert experience that felt more reflective of who they are.
Instead of a classic tiered wedding cake, they served two levels of handcrafted truffles for guests to enjoy together.
Interactive, elegant, and completely unexpected, it became a memorable moment that encouraged guests to gather, share, and celebrate.
A reminder that traditions don't have to be abandoned, they can simply be reimagined.
The Party: GOAT Energy
As sunset faded into night, the atmosphere transformed completely.
The newlyweds made their entrance surrounded by sparklers alongside their bridal party and groomsmen, immediately setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.
Signature cocktails flowed. Music filled the garden. Plates smashed in celebration. The dance floor never emptied.
At the center of it all stood one of the most iconic design installations of the night: a custom DJ backdrop built from stacked hay bales featuring a glowing LED sign that simply read:
GOAT.
A playful reference to their proposal story.
A nod to the wedding mascot that inspired the entire design.
And, of course, a celebration of being the Greatest Of All Time.
Guests instantly understood the joke.
And loved every second of it.
A Destination Wedding in Chania Designed Around a Story
Myrselena & Duarte’s wedding at Gramvousa Balos Restaurant was proof that the most meaningful wedding concepts often come from the most unexpected places.
A single proposal photograph became an entire visual identity.
A curious goat became a symbol of love, adventure, and shared memories.
Greek traditions met Portuguese heritage. Thoughtful design met heartfelt celebration. And every detail served a purpose.
Because the best weddings aren't built around trends.
They're built around stories.
